The rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is a simplified rule of the golden ratio. Its essence is to divide the frame into nine equal blocks (3x3, horizontal and vertical). Important objects in the frame should be located along the dividing lines and at the points of intersection. Such points are called points of interest.
When characters interact, they are often located along vertical lines. When shooting natural or urban landscapes, the horizon falls on one of the horizontal lines. This rule is followed not only by cinematographers, but also by ordinary photographers.

This kind of transition is used when you want to show a series of keyframes with some time lag between them. But this time lapse is not needed, so it is removed and only what is needed is left.

The ability to make pauses in time

Knowing how to pause in time when filming is critical. When you shoot your masterpiece, make sure to pause for a split second after a phrase of one actor and before the second starts to speak his replica. This is especially true for close-ups. This pause makes it possible to combine different shots together. In these moments, the editor will need to change the picture. Pauses can be trimmed, shortened, you can even use the acceleration or deceleration of the tempo in the scene.

You need to shoot only with the right white balance

White balance allows you to avoid overly red and blue shots. Incorrect white balance makes indoor shots with a strong bias toward red. This can easily be seen in white objects that appear pink to burgundy in color. Correcting this defect during editing can greatly reduce the quality of the final video. It is recommended to check the white balance each time you turn on the camera.

You should shoot with the right exposure and focus

Modern cameras allow you to change exposure and focus within small limits. Usually there is a compromise: by increasing it in pursuit of maximum light, we get a picture lacking detail in the bright parts of the frame, and vice versa. That is why it is so important to find the golden mean and understand which details you need to sacrifice for a better effect.

Avoid automatic exposure if possible and go to a fixed mode, especially when shooting dynamic scenes with changing perspectives.

Perfect sharp focus is also very important. Autofocus is a good thing, but in low light it's completely useless and does more harm than good. It's better to use manual focus, which is available in all professional video shooting applications.
